SEA PADDLE NYC RETURNS FOR EIGHTH YEAR ON AUG. 11

Charity Paddle Supports Autism Groups & Environmental CausesSEA_subway_small

The Surfers’ Environmental Alliance (SEA) is gearing up for its eighth annual SEA Paddle NYC around Manhattan.  On Aug. 11, SEA Paddle NYC — a 25-mile charity paddle that includes an elite race will kick off with registration at 7:30 a.m. at the Brooklyn Bridge Beach. Paddlers, or teams, each raise a minimum of $1,000 with all proceeds given to the Paddle’s beneficiaries, which include POAC, Autism Family Services of New Jersey, Surfers Healing, Best Day Foundation, Tommie Cares Foundation, Doug Flutie Jr. Foundation and Surfers For Autism. In addition to supporting those with autism, SEA Paddle NYC will also benefit the Alliance’s environmental efforts and Hurricane Sandy relief efforts in the area.

Actor and avid paddler David Chokachi has completed the SEA Paddle NYC in years past and will be participating this year. He says, “All three times were super unique, extremely challenging, and unbelievably rewarding. Most importantly, I feel like I have made a difference, by raising awareness for the preservation of our oceans, and also in knowing that I can physically and mentally accomplish this great challenge of circumnavigating the island of Manhattan on a Stand up paddle board.”

Immediately following the Paddle will be the After Party at The Frying Pan adjacent to Chelsea Piers, close to the Paddle finish line. Live music, food and drink are offered and it is open to the public. In addition, pre-registration will be held on Sunday, Aug. 10, at the Fish Market restaurant at South St. Seaport.

SEA Paddle NYC is proudly supported by Faherty Brand (who will be hosting a SEA auction prior to the paddle on July 17th. click here for more details) and tickets, Vita Coco, Stoke Stand Up Paddle Radio, YOLO Board, Chelsea Piers, Paddle Out Manasquan and Rhizotomy Surf. Sponsorship opportunities are still available. For more information, contact Ariane Yazdan at ayazdan@seasurfer.org.
