Charity Paddle Supports Autism Groups, Environmental Causes & Hurricane Sandy Relief

LONG BRANCH, N.J. — The Surfers’ Environmental Alliance (SEA), headquartered here, is gearing up for its seventh annual SEA Paddle NYC around Manhattan.

On Aug. 9, SEA Paddle NYC — a 25-mile charity paddle that includes an elite race and a shorter, 5-mile course — will kick off with registration at 7:30 a.m. at the Brooklyn Bridge Beach. Paddlers, or teams, each raise a minimum of $1,000 with all proceeds given to the Paddle’s beneficiaries, which include POACAutism Family Services of New JerseySurfers HealingBest Day FoundationThe Shore Center andVirginia Autism Project. In addition to supporting those with autism, SEA Paddle NYC will also benefit the Alliance’s environmental efforts and Hurricane Sandy relief efforts this year.

“The SEA Paddle is one of the most magical days that I look forward to all year,” said Darian Boyle, a sports reporter, television/radio host and SEA Board Member. “Paddlers come from all over the globe pushing themselves physically and mentally while raising money and awareness for autism and the environment. What better way to explore NYC than on a paddleboard with friends, old and new, sharing smiles and memories that you cherish forever?”

Again this year, big wave legend Darrick Doerner will be participating in the paddle.

Immediately following the Paddle will be the Aloha Party (former White Water Evening). The party will be held at Chelsea Brewing Company in Chelsea Piers, close to the Paddle finish line.  Live music, food and drink are offered and it is open to the public.  In addition, pre-registration will be held on Thursday, Aug 8th down at the South St. Seaport followed by a party at Beekman Beer Garden with SEA Paddle sponsors Dos XXVita CocoFaherty Brand and more!
