Josh Keller 2017-2018 Academic Year SEA Scholarships Recipient

Surfers’ Environmental Alliance awards two different academic scholarships each year.  It’s always nice to hear from our recipients. Here is what one of our 2017-2018 recipients, Josh Keller, is up to now and what he has to say about the SEA Scholarship! For more on our scholarships go to www.seasurfer.org/sea-scholarships.

“This scholarship helped me fund myself through another year at Eckerd College, my third, and it may have been the busiest yet. I took many classes directly pertaining to my Marine Science (biology track) major and Computer Science minor, building a wealth of knowledge and hands on experience in my fields. It was also a good year for the club I am president of, Scubi Jew, Eckerd’s environmental diving club. We performed coral restorations, underwater cleanups, beach cleanups, and many other environmental healing events. Membership has been blowing up, and we’ve certified at least 60 divers this year alone. We even Skyped with Paul Watson himself during one of our meetings! By the end of the year, Eckerd had awarded us the best environmental club on campus, and we have been in several news articles.

The Surfer’s Environmental Alliance helps me fund my education to repair the world through the amazing opportunities and experiences that I can only find at Eckerd College. I am so very grateful for the chance to be a part of a club like Scubi Jew and do so much good for the environment, and it is thanks to Surfer’s Environmental Alliance.”
